Groover Movers Strike Again!

The Groover Family is moving, again.

This will be our 5th move in 6 years. You may be asking yourself, "Why?" and I suppose, "Where to now?" We are leaving Columbus, Ohio, and moving to Indianapolis, Indiana!

We moved to Columbus in order for Curtis to complete his "Intern Year" of Residency. March 20, 2020, we went through the anxious process of #MatchDay. All doctors going into residency receive a letter and email instructing them of 2 things: 1) if they were accepted into residency, and more importantly, 2) where to. There were months upon months of preparation for this moment in time. The amount of money, time, and "discussions" we had as husband and wife preparing for #MatchDay was beyond what I had expected. However, the day came and we were told we would be off to Columbus for 1 year followed by 3 years in Indianapolis to pursue his anesthesia specialty. Considering we had already lived in Illinois for a year while Curtis finished college, 2 years in Missouri, and 2 years in Michigan, the thought of moving to Columbus, OH, for a year was just another stop along the journey.

However, this stop was unlike any other. We were moving during a global pandemic (#Covid19 strikes again), with a 4 month old baby, as new parents, and very uncertain of how living in a new location for only a year would turn out. Yet, God had a lot more in store for us as a family than we had ever imagined. If you have never relocated to another state, even in non-covid times, it is no easy feat. (Stay tuned for a follow-up post of what it is like relocating states and how the pandemic impacted our last move in 2020 and continues to have lingering impacts on our next move in 2021.)

Moving in 2020 brought about a lot of changes we had not anticipated but looking back are beyond grateful for! I became a stay at home mom (#SAHM), which allowed for me to be present and provide stability in our home that we otherwise may not have had with 2 working parents. (I’ll be talking a lot more on this subject as being a young doctor’s wife is not all the general public may imagine.) I joined a #momtribe (Momleta Columbus) like no other and I started a #fitnessjourney that I don’t plan on stopping. Regaining the strength and confidence to be fit again, as a mother, brought more consistency in our lives during a global pandemic than I ever thought possible. We learned the importance of intentionality in friendships as our time was limited and community always is so important. It took months for Curtis to develop friendships and start a Bible study with fellow residents, and yet God opened those doors. I quickly joined an online Bible study for ladies throughout the country (#BSF, Bible Study Fellowship), and these women have prayed with and over me in ways God only knew I needed this year - even from afar. Last, but not least our little Luna has more friends than all of us and has safe play dates continually, and for that I am the most thankful!

Needless to say, our year in Columbus has not been a waste, but has been one of our favorites and we are sad to say “goodbye”. Even though we move on to the next stage in our journey, we will never forget the faces and hearts that we have grown close to in this season.

Until next - your friend, Jordi

I was in BSF for years and loved it! Josh and Aaron were both involved and it created many opportunities for fond memories! I loved delving deep into God’s word! Love you

Replying to

I have enjoyed BSF so much this year, we are hoping to join an in-person group in the fall once we move to Indy. We've been studying Genesis which has been very enlightening!
